Before you can begin, you need to ensure the screen recording tool is accessible in your Control Center. While many default tools appear there, the screen recorder is often hidden and requires a simple manual addition.
To do this, unlock your iPhone 15 and tap on the Settings app from your home screen or App Library. Scroll down slightly and tap on the "Control Center" menu. Here, you will see two primary sections: "Included Controls" (the tools that currently appear when you swipe down your menu) and "More Controls" (the list of available tools you can add).
Scroll through the "More Controls" list until you locate the green plus sign (+) next to "Screen Recording." Tap the green icon to instantly move the screen recording function into your "Included Controls" list, meaning it is now ready to use. You can also reorder it within this menu if you prefer to have the icon appear in a specific location on your screen. Once completed, tap anywhere else or press the back button to save your changes and exit the Settings menu.
Now that the tool is readily available, you never have to repeat this initial configuration step.When you are ready to capture your screen, begin by accessing your Control Center. On your iPhone 15, do this by swiping downward from the top-right corner of your screen (where your battery indicator and Wi-Fi symbols are located). In the grid of shortcut icons, you will now see a button featuring two concentric circles—this is your Screen Recording icon.
If you just want to record your screen without any external audio or voiceover, simply tap the icon once. The icon will turn a highlighted color, and your phone will initiate a brief three-second countdown timer. This three-second delay is built into the iOS system to give you ample time to close out of the Control Center and navigate to the exact app, game, or screen you want to capture before the actual recording begins.
Once the countdown concludes, the button will begin flashing, and a small red recording indicator will appear on your Dynamic Island at the top of the display, continuously letting you know that a recording is currently in progress. You can now freely use your device, play games, browse websites, or open applications, and everything you see on your display will be recorded exactly as it happens.If you want to capture audio along with your video—such as explaining a tutorial step or capturing your friends' reactions during gameplay—you must take a slightly different approach before you hit the record button.
Instead of just tapping the screen recording icon in the Control Center, press and hold your finger down on the icon. Do not let go immediately; keep your finger pressed until a pop-up menu appears on the screen. In this hidden sub-menu, you will see a microphone icon with the text "Microphone Off" underneath it. Tap the microphone icon to toggle it on, which will cause it to turn red and indicate that external sound will now be captured.
This menu also gives you the option to choose where the file saves, with your Photos app being the default and recommended destination. Once the microphone is enabled, tap the "Start Recording" button or tap anywhere on the dark background to close this pop-up menu. When you tap the screen record icon to begin, the same three-second countdown will occur, and you will now be recording your screen along with all internal app sounds and whatever audio your microphone picks up.When you have finished capturing everything you need and want to end the video, doing so is just as easy as starting it.
Look at the very top of your iPhone 15 screen, specifically near your Dynamic Island or status bar. You will see a glowing red indicator or a red pill-shaped bubble showing your recording time. Tap this red indicator directly, and a prompt will appear asking if you want to stop the screen recording. Tap "Stop," and the recording will immediately end. Alternatively, you can swipe down to open the Control Center again and tap the red-highlighted Screen Recording icon.
Once you stop it, your iPhone 15 will display a notification banner confirming that the screen recording video was successfully saved to your Photos app. To view, edit, trim, or share your newly created video, open the built-in Photos app, tap on the "Library" or "Recents" tab, and your new recording will be right there. It is important to note a few limitations to keep in mind while using this feature: some streaming or security applications may restrict you from recording video or audio due to copyright or privacy protocols. Additionally, you cannot use screen mirroring while actively taking a screen recording.
